Baby Mia!

This sweet girl was just over 3 weeks when we met for her newborn session and she did really well! A lot of photographers get nervous when a newborn is over 10 days old because they tend to be a little more alert and fight being posed for pictures, but I think it doesn't matter all that much. If a baby doesn't want to be in a certain pose, they're not going to cooperate as much as you'd like, whether they're 5 days old or 5 weeks old! Anyway, Mia was fantastic. We worked with the positions that she seemed to favor and she rewarded us by being the cutest little sleeping newborn in all of Phoenix! The tutu was just beyond adorable, too!

This year was AMAZING! We met and photographed the nicest couples and families, shot at some fantastic locations and laughed... a lot! Thank you all for your support and for trusting us to capture these moments!

And to sum it all up... here are some of our favorite images from 2011 and our first ever contest! It was incredibly hard to narrow it down so I let the feedback we have received decide which one's to include.

Dustin & Cassie are Married!

Dustin & Cassie were married at The Boojum Tree this past weekend. When I walked into the bridal suite to say hello to the bride, she was shaking her bootie and sliding across the wood floors in her socks (think Tom Cruise in Risky Business, but more clothed). I knew it was going to be a fun day! This couple had every detail thought out and some of the best vows I've ever heard! The kind of vows that make you laugh and cry... those are the best! I can't believe this year is almost over and I really can't believe this couple is married! We've really enjoyed getting to know them as a couple, shooting their engagement sessions (see their engagement sessions here and here), and spending time with them. I truly think they balance each other perfectly! Here are some of our favorite images from the day!

Have I mentioned that I love newborns?! They are just so sweet and precious. This sweet little girl was no exception. She wasn't the biggest fan of "modeling", but once we just let her be, she didn't mind the camera one bit. The first and last images are my absolute favorites, but I happen to believe that baby yawns are one of the cutest things on earth!

Kids' Chance of Arizona Silent Auction Winner

We recently donated a portrait session to Kids' Chance of Arizona as a prize for their silent auction. This sweet family were the winners and decided to use their session last week. They chose a beautiful area in the west valley for their pics and it turned out really well. Here are a few of my favorites! The sweet baby at the end is my favorite, but I have a soft spot for puppies.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I had intended on posting earlier and mentioning all of the things I am thankful for, more for our own purposes... to look back in a year or so and see what we were up to (other bloggers will totally understand this), but we were super busy this week and the free time I did have was dedicated to editing. That's a good thing, though. Being busy with shooting, editing (working!) and spending time with our fantastic family and friends are some of the things for which I am most thankful.

Being a wedding photographer gets you a front row pass to some of the sweetest moments! When their wedding ceremony was over, Ryan and Catherine were whisked away to a little room to sign the marriage license out of sight from their guests. In this room, there was a quiet moment where I heard Catherine whisper to Ryan "we're married!". It was a super awesome moment and one of the reasons why I love weddings as much as I do. Cassie & Dustin Engaged! Part II

Mini Meltdown

On Friday, about an hour before I left for our 11/11/11 wedding, my computer stopped working. As in... completely dead. I had a bit of a panic attack. The people around me at the time must have thought I was insane (Thank you Rob for putting up with me).

Thankfully, my husband reminded me that everything we needed (and all of our work!) was backed up and we could always replace the computer if we needed. So my ridiculous anxiety subsided (a little), AND the wonderful people at the Apple store have brought my computer back to life! So now I can get back to editing after a forced 4-day hiatus and hopefully get some pictures delivered and blogs posted.

Breathing is much easier now, too! :)

Brooke & Billy are Married!

This wedding was fun and intimate. Brooke & Billy had an outdoor ceremony and reception. It rained the night before, which had me a little concerned knowing how much Brooke wanted to be outdoors, but the morning of their wedding the sky was blue and the sun was warm. It turned out to be a beautiful day!

These beautiful sisters are one and two years old! I still can't believe I've known their hero of a Mom (and one of my bff's) since I was in second grade! I might be a bit biased, but aren't they just so gorgeous with all of their smiles and energy! I know this isn't surprising, but it can be a bit difficult to get two sweet pea's under 3 to sit together and smile for a camera, so luckily they are adorable no matter what they're doing. Lars & Heather {Dowtown Phoenix Engagement Session}

I recently spent a morning with this cute couple for their engagement session in Downtown Phoenix (where they got engaged!). I gave them my usual pep talk before we started (i.e. I know it's totally awkward having someone tell you to make out for an hour, but by the end of this experience it'll probably feel normal) and quickly realized it wasn't necessary. They are super affectionate and totally in love. A lot of that probably had to do with the fact that they have a long distance relationship. :( Like many of our couples, they met online. The only unusual thing about it is that the match service they used selected her (from AZ) for him (from and currently living in Norway). So they're currently long distance, but hopefully not for long. Can't wait for this Spring wedding!

Beautiful 34 Week (or so) Belly

Maternity sessions are officially my absolute favorite type of portrait session. They are fun and exciting and I usually get to meet the little papoose right after they're born! This beautiful lady is due to have her first baby (a GIRL!) in late October. Doesn't she look AMAZING?! We had so much fun during her session. She had some fantastic ideas and has totally embraced her beautiful figure, which I love! Here's a few of my favorites. She's already seen all of these, so they aren't really "teasers", but fun to post nonetheless. :)

This was such a fun session! This future Mommy loves anything active and although I was a little hesitant when she mentioned the rollerblading idea (34 weeks pregnant and rollerblading?!), it turned out awesome! :)

30 years in photos!

Recently, for my 30th birthday, my Dad gave me a photo album. It's a simple red album with an orange tie to hold it together (think Moleskine style, except as a photo album). He filled every slot with photos from the first 30 years of my life! From birth, to birthdays, holidays, family, childhood friends, adult friends, pets, vacations... EVERYTHING! They're not even copies. Original photos from my life. It's amazing!

My favorite pic is in the very back. It's a bad photo from when my parent's were dating. I've been on a mission to find photos of my parent's together in the 70's (or pre-1974), but haven't been able to get my hands on any... until now. They are both decked out in super hippy attire and my Mom has platinum blonde hair. My Dad's forehead is cut off, it's faded, turning yellow and the corners are a little bent, but it's really special! I want to buy a fireproof/waterproof safe just to keep this amazing gift safe...

Baby Jillian {Day 12}

I recently spent a couple of days in San Diego and was luckyenough to meet this adorable baby girl! She’s already super special, but thislittle sweet pea was born on the best day of the year… my birthday! How amazingis that? Pretty awesome in my book (can you tell I love my birthday???)!

She refused to sleep while we photographed her. None of thetricks to make a newborn sleep would work. She wasn’t fussy (or anymore fussythan a usual newborn) or mad, just wide-awake. So we clicked away and got somecute AWAKE newborn photos. Seriously, we only have one image with her eyes closed andthat was when she happened to get a little upset with us, but it didn’t lastlong. Wedding Book Love

I was so excited to hand this book over that I wrapped it all up and realized that I had forgotten to take a few quick shots to share. Not to worry, I did manage to remember, but if only you could see it in person. Not to pat myself on the back, but I totally loved this album. I couldn't wait to hand it over (and I couldn't even do it in person so I didn't get to see their reaction, but I think they're happy :))!

We had a few bumps in the road trying to make this day work, but thankfully it was all worth it. Even though this beach was the busiest beach I’ve ever seen in my life, we managed to find our own little space! As I expected, photographing barefoot in the sand is pretty awesome!

Around the House

Have you ever seen someone doing something and instantly you know you would enjoy it? That’s how I felt about quilting. I knew that it was something I would like and I do indeed LOVE it. The strange thing is, I can’t really “sew”. If I’m asked to do something other than quilt, I can’t do it. Maybe I should take a basic sewing class? Seriously, I can’t hardly sew a button or a hem (and when I do attempt it, the result looks kind of funky), but quilting has my heart. Eventually I'll be making a giant yellow quilt for myself. That might take some time, though.

A few years ago, my Dad was helping a friend clean out his friends parent's old house (that's a mouth full) and found this sewing machine. They were going to throw it away and he asked if he could have it... and now I have it. Normally it stays in it’s cabinet (it’s the kind that is it’s own table) and my actual sewing machine is stored on top of it, but occasionally I take it out, dust it off, admire it, and wonder who it was who used it. This past week I decided to photograph it. The pins that are tied around the center were there when my Dad brought it home. I don’t have the heart to remove them as I think they add to the story of this machine. I’m just not sure exactly what that story is yet.

The cabinet is a little slanted and not in the best condition. I'd love to get it fixed by a professional one day.

I toss all of the scraps of fabric from past projects into this bowl. Eventually I think it'd be fun to do something with all of the random pieces. I also love how it looks all clumped together. Makes me smile every time I enter the room. Isn't it strange how the weirdest things can make us happy. :)

I was super excited to find out that Gavin had arrived earlier this month AND to get to meet him! When I showed up for their newborn session, his parent's had him ready to go. I always get excited when our FedEx guy hands over a package I've been "patiently" awaiting. I might have even squealed a little (I get a little carried away) when he handed this one over. Album packages are my absolute favorite to open! I had to snap a few quick photos to share before delivering it. Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with packaging? I love it! A little ribbon goes a long way in my heart. :)

Congratulations to Scott and Stacie who were recently married at the Wyndham in downtown Phoenix (see their family engagement session here). It was a gorgeous ceremony and reception on the 5th floor deck of the hotel. Their friends and family danced the night away under the stars and the high-rise buildings surrounding the Wyndham. Tanner and Tanya had an amazing northern Arizona wedding. They had a day full of love, laughter and personal touches. As always, we had a great time meeting their families and documenting the day. Such fun and sweet people! Here are some of our favorites.

They built this arch themselves specifically for their wedding (with the help of some very talented friends). Seriously...amazing!

This table was a gift they received with the intention of having guests carve their name or message into the wood (the message was stained immediately afterwards). Can you imagine having this to keep for years? Such a cool idea.

Brian & Nicole are married!

Brian and Nicole had an intimate ceremony on Bell Rock in Sedona. We literally hiked up the trail with the Bride & Groom, their officiant and 15 guests. It was sweet and beautiful (and the red rock shockingly didn’t stick to her beautiful dress as I kind of expected it to ☺). We enjoyed spending a couple of hours with them and I was a bit sad it was over. When you normally spend 6-10 hours with a bride and groom on their wedding day, it feels strange to only see them for 2 hours. They’re a lovely couple and I’m sure they’ll have lots of love and happiness in the adventure that awaits them.

This adorable family (I love them!) have a 6 month old AND a 20 month old. They're both just babies... Super cute, adorable and impossible to bribe (not that bribery is encouraged). :) Sometimes you just have to go with it and this is what we got...

The only time big sister smiled (as long as the camera was out of the bag, anyway), was when she got to hold her little sister. Her face lit up!

We participated in the Arizona bridal Affair this past weekend and it was an awesome experience. So different from other shows out there! We actually had a moment to talk to Brides (and Grooms!) and hear small details about their amazing weddings that will be happening over the next year or two! In early March we attended the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference in Las Vegas. It was great fun, super educational and productive. One of the tasks we set for ourselves was to find an album vendor. We knew what we wanted as far as quality, appearance and price, but we had to flip through hundreds of albums at the trade show before we decided who we wanted to work with. We narrowed it down to two companies and have decided to use both. I was incredibly excited when we received our first sample album. It was really fun to design and I’m incredibly pleased with the final product. I’ll probably be ordering a sample album from the other company we’re considering in a few weeks, but for now I just had to share some pics of what we’ll be offering from here on out!

Baby Hannah {Day 5}

I can’t think of a single word that would describe a newborn session properly, but I love them! They can be challenging, but are always rewarding and the little ones always manage to melt your hearts. Little Miss Hannah was no exception. We fawned over her as she slept, cried, stared into the air and even attempted what we’ll call a smile! Here are some of my favorites. Her big sister even managed to sneak in a couple shots; one adorable one with Grandma that I had to share!

There’s a huge bridal show coming up this weekend and when I hear the advertisements on the radio I think back to my wedding planning days. I spent some time at the bridal fairs as a bride and it was a fun, overwhelming yet bonding experience. The first time I went was with my sister. We weren’t sure what to expect and were totally overwhelmed. We laughed about it and de-stressed over lunch shortly after. While I’m not quite ready to attend as a vendor, I know that the experience I had as a bride will help me prepare. To help you prepare for your wedding day, I’ve listed a couple of my favorite planning blogs and websites. There are so many ideas and different things to be inspired by, the list could go on forever! I’ll keep it simple and post a few every so often as they come to mind.

Scot & Stacie are expecting their little arrival in late January and couldn’t be cuter as they plan and prepare. They aren’t finding out the gender (so if you can possibly tell by the ultrasound pic, keep it quiet!), which is becoming increasingly unusual these days. I think it’s sweet and incredibly exciting. Makes me rethink my “must know as soon as possible” approach. Maybe when the time comes for us, we’ll be a little more patient. It’s doubtful, but who knows! Weddings come in many different forms and I’ve been lucky to experience several. I’m thinking on a simple level. Whether it is religion, personality, family traditions or locations, there always seems to be something unique. Just recently, we took a weekend trip up to Las Vegas to witness and take pleasure in my brother-in-laws wedding. It was a Vegas wedding, but without Elvis and big neon signs. It was in a little Vegas chapel and they made it simple, personal and unique to them, which I think every wedding should be. They had a Photographer included in their wedding package but I managed to take a few photos during the dinner afterwards.

We spent some time in Colorado over the 4th of July weekend. We were in Denver for the majority of our time, but also made a few day trips up to the mountains. Every city/town we visited has it’s own unique personality. I loved it. I was literally scouting houses out on day two! Unfortunately, it’s back to reality and the heat of our adored Phoenix. I may be planning a trip up to Flagstaff in the next few weeks just to quench my thirst and release my inner mountain girl. Colorado reminded me a lot of Flagstaff from the kindness of the people to the cool crisp breeze at night and afternoon showers. We had a marvelous time and will hopefully be returning one winter for some snow sports and Bacon Bloody Mary’s.

Joe & Becky are married!

Our awesome friends, Joe & Becky, were married this past weekend. We did their engagement pics a while back, which they used to make their guest book. Andrew and I were both in the wedding party, but we did manage to get a few pictures from the day. The quality of these wedding images aren’t quite our norm because I only had my little point and shoot handy, but I thought it would be fun to post a few photo’s nonetheless. "Firsts"

Andrew and I were married last November (2008) and have been together for a total of 10 years now! After 10 years, we’re still having “first” experiences, which I love! One of these “firsts” happened this weekend. For the first time, we went camping. The even bigger thing is, it wasn’t just us. We ventured out for a camping trip with my family for my Dad’s 60th birthday. So on top of the stress that comes with any trip you take, we compounded that by living in the wilderness as a couple and with my family (his in laws). Eak! How did it go? It was wonderful! Andrew and I love to travel and it actually surprises me that we had yet to camp together. It also helps that my sister and brother-in-law are pretty much experts. ☺ This may have been our first trip but I don’t think it will be our last. Here are some of our images from the weekend.

This picture is from the inside of a kaleidoscope at a super cute shop in Jerome. The shop owner was lovely and let me take a few shots of the inside of these unique and beautiful kaleidoscopes. It turned out a little crazy but full of color and wonderful designs.

Arizona Bridal Portraits

I’ve photographed weddings, engagements, babies and families, but I had yet to do a bridal portrait session. I’m totally hooked! This weekend I stepped out of my ordinary photography box and ventured out to do a bridal portrait session with this beautiful bride. Bridal portraits over the past few decades have earned a bit of a bad reputation. Known for being old fashioned and overly posed, bridal portraits were taken for the mother of the bride, not for the bride herself. They are making a comeback and today’s bridal portraits are anything but old fashioned and stuffy. Working one on one with the bride is amazing and capturing the glow of a bride weeks or months before the wedding is pure joy! To avoid the heat and capture the beautiful morning light, this stunning bride met up with me at 5:45 a.m. to start this session! That’s some commitment right there! Here are a few images from our Sunday morning shoot. I love them and I hope you do too!

Chihuly exhibit

We recently visited the Chihuly exhibit at the Desert Botanical Gardens. The way they had the artwork displayed was beautiful! This is also a lovely location for a wedding. It has the feeling of being hidden away in the Papago Mountains but you’re still in the middle of the city. The landscape of the gardens is gorgeous and your photographs will be stunning!

Spring training with the A's

Living in central Arizona, there are a lot of reasons to look forward to spring and a few more reasons to dread it. Yes, the days are absolutely gorgeous, but the weather is warming up all too fast and the short “winter” we just encountered is quickly sprouting occasional 90+ degree days. However, there are some beautiful days before the temperatures rise to triple digits and one of our favorite ways to enjoy them is by going to spring training games. These are some pictures from a Mariner’s vs. A’s Spring Training game we recently attended. The weather was amazing, with warm light and vibrant blue skies. Here are a few pictures from the day.

This past weekend we had a fun engagement session with Tanner & Tanya. We wandered around a park, snuck onto a golf course and ended up with some great shots. Here are a few from the day:

I have to give Andrew the credit for this shot. He was standing off to the side and saw this composition when I was working on something different. It turned out to be one of our favorites.

I know this is a strange picture for our first post but this is from our trip returning from Las Vegas for a Wedding Photography convention last month. This was taken with my little point and shoot through the windshield but I thought it was a good example of the crazy weather we see in AZ. We didn't get a single drop of rain the whole way home but we did have beautiful views like this! We'll talk more about the convention soon as we start applying our new ideas.
